Shashenk
Saw her on the water
full of herself
welcome again
come down on the trees
Yeah she ain’t bad
when she comes around
Ring and flare
you strange thing
moody piercing glare
stir the crazy
Float on high
head in the clouds
dance for me
drown the crowd
Yeah she ain’t bad
when she comes around
Ring and flare
you strange thing
moody piercing glare
stir the crazy
Erie surround
no sound
kiss the mountain air
say goodbye for now
Yeah she ain’t bad
when she comes around

Time to Time
Staring out the window pane
from the sun’s early morning rise
Running from the wind and rain
blowing off the mountain side
Wither the candle flame
of flourished dreams through the night
Thought of a new day awaits
to awaken my own light
A mind filled with hurt and pain
will drive a grown man wild
An easy life with simple things
is all that he desires
There’s dust in the windshield glare
as the sun begins to shine
Wondering what this day brings
but I’m already out of time
Wheels under my feet keep turning
my head is singing sounds
Can’t tell where it’s going
but it’s too late to turn around
Find myself stuck in this state
from time to time
Got somewhere to be
but too much on my mind
Picking on the porch
in the calm warm evening light
The clouds are way down in the soil
and the trees are hanging from the sky
Looking at a world so plain
will make my eyes go blind
I see things a different way
My soul was realigned

New Red Coat
A new red coat for maple
Corn fields golden yellow
Old blue folds beyond
And it all bids my soul to go
When your eyes first looked up at me
and your feet were loose and free
We both knew what we could be
but things are not all what they seem
If you don’t want to follow where I lead then you can stay
But in the bed you’ve made is where you know that you must lay
It’s true that every leaf will need to leave the tree one day
But the wind they choose to ride is a decision they all make
The bitter cold did show
and stripped the maple of it’s coat
Gold fields turn to grey
ain’t seen them ridges in ten days
Wood and whiskey warm
where your touch once lit the fire
Ashes scattered by the storm
and the cold heart you’ve acquired
If you don’t want to follow where I lead then you can stay
But in the bed you’ve made is where you know that you must lay
It’s true that every leaf will need to leave the tree one day
But the wind they choose to ride is a decision they all make

Fade
Sitting here on a lazy Monday morning
Open my eyes to realize
I wish I would have got your warning
I’m soaking it all in with something new
ain’t like you, something I never thought I’d do
There’s something ’bout the sky so blue
beyond that too, it makes me think of you
I wanna go all the way up and come back down
without a parachute
I’m so far away from home
even though I’m right here in my own bedroom
I’m way too far gone
from the place I was before
My track of time slowly ticks away
and everything around starts to fade
Sitting here on a late Monday night
I’m starting to figure out all the things I’ve tried
To come across, to think too long
it’s all been coming to me
The things that you can’t see
there’s something about the stars so bright
the plane in the sky
it makes me wanna cry
tears of joy
cause I finally found my light

For the Birds
You flew the coop in your white sports car
I hit the road happy as a lark
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush
so I’m gonna stick with what I got
Don’t want to ruffle your feathers even more
I’m a free bird
Glad your gone and far away
Won’t you go rule the roost in a different place
I’m a free bird
Got a birds eye view staring down at you
Watching your every move
I was proud as a peacock to be with you
Now we’re dead as a Dodo broken in two
Birds of a feather may flock together
but now you left me out on this limb forever
I’m a free bird
Glad you’re gone and far away
Hope you migrate on to a different place
I’m a free bird
Got a bird’s eye view so spread your wings
as the crow flies and the song bird sings
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush
so I’m gonna stick with what I got
Don’t want to ruffle your feathers even more

Summer Nights
Do you remember when
we used to pack our bags
for a week-long trip?
Without a care in the world
leaving that small town we were living in
Singing I never want to let you go
And I always want to be this close
till the day we die we’ll never say goodbye
I’ll love you till the end of time
We’ll have our wrong and rights and little fights
but until then we’re soaking up these summer nights
There’s something about it
when the stars line up
like they did that summer night
Wish I could go back with you
just one more time
Singing I never want to let you go
And I always want to be this close
till the day we die we’ll never say goodbye
I’ll love you till the end of time
We’ll have our wrong and rights and little fights
but until then we’re soaking up these summer nights

Take Mine from Me
The other day I was thinking bout
buying you a ring and a big ‘ol house
Don’t know if that thought was way out
but we can start dreaming right now
Don’t know where I’d go
Don’t know where I’d be
if I didn’t have you in my passenger seat
Got no idea why you love a boy like me
but when we carve our names in that ‘ol pine tree
You can take mine from me
I’m a small town country boy you’re a big city girl
climbing up in the F-150 cranking Merle
We can do things your way if you don’t like mine
It won’t make me mad just to see you smile
Don’t know where I’d go
Don’t know where I’d be
if I didn’t have you in my passenger seat
Got no idea why you love a boy like me
but when we carve our names in that ‘ol pine tree
You can take mine from me
When you come walking down that aisle
and our mommas and daddies are so proud
Don’t think twice about marrying me
cause you’re the prettiest thing that I ever have seen
Don’t know where I’d go
Don’t know where I’d be
if I didn’t have you in my passenger seat
Got no idea why you love a boy like me
but when we carve our names in that ‘ol pine tree
You can take mine from me

Two Small Towns
Got some wisdom from two grown men
learned how to hunt and fish and be like them
Got some good advice from two good women
’bout growing up, growing old, loving and living
Got some family that ain’t related by blood
but you couldn’t tell by taking one look at us
Cause I grew up in two small towns
still running up and down the road every weekend
Friday night lights turn to interstate nights
looking through a truck door window staring at the sky
But don’t get me wrong I love this life
wouldn’t ever trade it for any other kind
So if I never settle down it’s because I can’t choose
between my two small towns
There’s something ’bout it
yeah, the feeling when you cross that mountain
There’s a few good spots that’ll take your breath away
If I’m trying to find peace you can find me at this place
When you get to the center of VA
Everybody knows each other an we got it made
Find me here when I’m feeling down
and I need someone to pick me up off this red clay ground
Cause I grew up in two small towns
still running up and down the road every weekend
Friday night lights turn to interstate nights
looking through a truck door window staring at the sky
But don’t get me wrong I love this life
wouldn’t ever trade it for any other kind
So if I never settle down it’s because I can’t choose
between my two small towns
Yeah I might be a ramblin’ man
but it’s worth it for all the years I’ve spent…
Growing up in two small towns
still running up and down the road every weekend
Friday night lights turn to interstate nights
looking through a truck door window staring at the sky
But don’t get me wrong I love this life
wouldn’t ever trade it for any other kind
So if I never settle down it’s because I can’t choose
between my two small towns
